Abstract:

Objective

To analyze the correlation between the peripheral blood levels of Apelin and Cystatin C (Cys-C) in type 2 diabetic patients with nephropathy and its clinical significance.

Methods

Sixty-three patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus treated in the Endocrinology and Cadre ward of the People’s Hospital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomus Region from May 2014 to February 2017, were divided into diabetic nephropathy patients group (24 hours urine micro albumin >30 mg/24h, n=31) and non-diabetic nephropathy group (24 hours urine micro albumin≤30 mg/24h, n=32) according to the 24 hours urine micro albumin. And 30 healthy individuals were enrolled as nomal contol group. The fasting serum Apelin level and whole blood Cys-C level were measured and were compared among the three groups. The correlation of Apelin level with Cys-C level was analyzed in the diabetic nephropathy group.

Results

The Apelin and Cys-C levels in diabetic nephropathy group, the non-diabetic nephropathy group were significantly higher than those in normal control group (P<0. 05). The Apelin and Cys-C levels derreased in diabetic nephropathy group were significantly higher than those the non-diabetic nephropathy group (P<0.05). The Apelin level positively comelated with the Cys-C level in the diabetic nephropathy group (P<0.05).

Conclusions

There existed a positive correlation between the levels of Apelin and Cys-C in the type 2 diabetic patients with nephropathy, considering that both of them regulat the development of disease through the synergistic in glomerulus, which can be an early indicator of diabetic nephropathy.

Key words: Diabetic nephropathy, Cystatin C, Apelin
