Clinical significance and prospect of bariatric metabolic surgery in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases

Abstract:

Bariatric surgery, as one of the long-term and effective treatments for obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), has gained common recognition in the Department of Medicine and Surgery. With the rapid development of bariatric metabolic surgery, the academic research of clinicians, and the accumulation of more than 20 years of experience, many studies have found that bariatric surgery can prevent and treat cardiovascular disease, the most major long-term complication of obesity, by improving obesity-related cardiovascular risk factors. Therefore, bariatric surgery is expected to be one of the new therapeutic methods for cardiovascular metabolic diseases in obese patients in the future. This review aims to explore the clinical significance and prospect of bariatric metabolic surgery in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
