Abstract:

Over the past 10 years, bariatric and metabolic surgery has been rapidly developed in China, and the cases of sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and sleeve gastrectomy combined surgery (SG Plus) accounted for more than 90% of the total bariatric and metabolic surgery. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is one of the main complications after SG and SG Plus. Exploring the mechanism of GERD after SG and SG Plus and how to reduce the occurrence of GERD after SG and SG Plus are currently hot topics in the field of of bariatric and metabolic surgery. Since the operation of SG and SG Plus involves the anatomy around the gastric antrum, In this paper, by reviewing the anatomy and physiological functions of the gastric antrum, we will further explore the possible mechanism of preserving the intact gastric antrum during SG and SG Plus operations to reduce the occurrence of postoperative GERD.

Key words: Sleeve gastrectomy (SG), Gastric antrum, Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
