Abstract:

Objective

To explore the application value of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) on obesity and obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS).

Methods

This study retrospectively analyzed 20 patients of obese with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome who underwent LSG in The Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University from September 2015 to April 2017. Data were collected before surgery and 3 months after surgery, including body weight, height and calculated body mass index (BMI), apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) and the lowest SaO2 (LSaO2) were obtained from polysomnography (PSG). Statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS for Windows version 22.0. All continuous variable values were expressed as mean±SD. Paired-Samples T Test and Pearson correlative analysis were used. The significance level of this study was set at a two-tailed α=0.05.

Results

At 3 months after the surgery, all patients' body weight decreased from (119.96±28.33) kg to (96.77±22.71) kg, BMI decreased from (42.71±9.32) kg/m2 to (34.17±7.30) kg/m2, AHI decreased from (46.80±20.75) to (26.89±15.31) and LSaO2 increased from (63.15±11.74) to (76.17±10.21).

Conclusion

This article showed that LSG is an effective treatment for the management of OSAHS in morbidly obese patients.
