Abstract:
Objective To investigate the clinical application value of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) in treating obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Methods Clinical data of 24 obese patients undergoing LSG in the Affiliated Hospital of Guilin Medical College from January 2011 to December 2013 were retrospectively studied. The informed consents of all patients were obtained and the local ethical committee approval had been received. Among the 24 patients, 9 were males and 15 were females with an average age of (28±6) years old. All patients received LSG, and their body weight, body mass index (BMI), percentage of excess body weight loss, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), glycosylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were collected before and after operation. Comparisons of these data before and after operation were conducted using t test.
Results Two years after operation, BMI, FPG, HbA1c, TG, LDL-C of these patients were (39±11) kg/m2, (6.5±0.7) mmol/L, (6.0±0.5)%, (1.8±1.0) mmol/L and (2.1±0.7) mmol/L respectively, which were significantly lower than (50±11) kg/m2, (9.2±0.7) mmol/L, (7.9±1.8)%, (2.5±1.0) mmol/L and (2.9±0.9) mmol/L before operation (t=5.976, 4.731, 15.457, 8.327, 3.726, P<0.05); the effective rate of type 2 diabetes mellitus was 100%, and the cure rate of hyperlipemia was 100%.
Conclusions LSG has a good short- and mid-term curative effect on obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus, so it is worthy of clinical promotion and application.
