Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the changing of serum adiponectin in obese patients with T2DM who underwent laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB).

Methods

From March 2011 to February 2012,52 obese patients with T2DM were admitted to Armed Police General Hospital and underwent LRYGB. The follow-up time is one year. Adiponectin, HbA1c, triglycerides, cholesterol, OGTT and insulin release test were detected in postoperative time of 1 week and 1, 3, 6, 12 months.

Results

The follow-up rate is 100% with no loss; During the one-year follow-up, the cure rate of T2DM was 86.5% (45/52) and the cure rate of obesity was 67.3% (35/52); Comparing with the mean level of 4.3 ug/ml of adiponectin pre-operatively, adiponectin decreased to 2.93 ug/ml slightly within 3 months follow-up, then increased gradually to 7.36 ug/ml, the level of 12 months after procedures had a statistical difference comparing to the preoperative level (P<0.05); the levels of FPG, HbA1c and HOMA-IR decreased continuously, and had statistical differences comparing to the preoperative levels (P<0.05).

Conclusions

LRYGB has exact treating effectiveness for obese patients with T2DM,and the increased level of adiponectin after procedures may be related to the mechanism of improvement of glucose metabolism.
